The Neil Gaiman Batman Story That Never Was

http://www.cbr.com/batman-neil-gaiman-simon-bisley/

The period following the release of the 1989 Batman film were crazy, as the graphic novel, Arkham Asylum, by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean, had exploded in sales popularity due to its release in conjunction with the Batman film. DC Comics, naturally, wanted more books like Arkham Asylum to sell.
Therefore, in 1990, they signed a deal with their up-and-coming star writer on Sandman, Neil Gaiman, along with the awesome artist, Simon Bisley, to do a graphic novel in the vein of Arkham Asylum.
Gaiman later recalled: There’s a story that I signed a contract with DC to write called The Night Circus which is all about Batman going to the circus and that was meant to have been a painted book with Simon Bisley many, many years ago. Whether it will happen or not I don’t know, but it would be a lovely story to do.
Gaiman also noted elsewhere back in 1998, “it was started back then, and then Simon signed an exclusive deal with tundra, and the whole thing was forgotten.”

Batman rides a dinosaur in first look at Dark Nights

 IMG_9988
There’s more to this preview than just the (awesome) image of Batman on a T-Rex.  As Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have promised, there are whole aspects of the DCU we haven’t seen in some time: the Challengers of the Unknown, Red Tornado, the Multiverse map from Multiversity, and more.  Check out this sneak preview of the highly anticipated event where you can see the Justice League engaged in outer space gladiatorial combat, strange symbols in the desert, and yes, Batman riding a dinosaur.

‘Batman: Gotham by Gaslight’ is WB’s next animated movie

An Amazon listing for the upcoming Batman and Harley Quinn 4K Blu-ray has revealed what Warner Bros.’ next animated movie will be, and it’s Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
“Gotham by Gaslight” is a classic Batman comic that was published in 1989. Here’s a brief description from the Batman News review:
Originally published in 1989, Gotham by Gaslight tells the “What if” story of a 19th century Caped Crusader who comes face to face with the Butcher of Whitechapel. It’s Batman vs. Jack the Ripper written by Brian Augustyn and illustrated by none other than the creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola.

‘The Batman’ director teases “very emotional” story

Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice
“It’s my hope to tell a very emotional Batman story,” Reeves told Yahoo Movies
“What I love that [Nolan] did was that he took the genre seriously,” Reeves said. “What studios are willing to make at the moment is a very, very narrow band of films. What I discovered is that this genre has the potential to be about something more. You can use the metaphors of the genre to talk about [a lot].

Batman: The Animated mini-series

It's 25 years since Batman: The Animated Series brought a classic yet modern Dark Knight to the small screen.
Rated as the best adaptation of Batman anywhere outside of comics by IGN and the second-best animated series of all time (after The Simpsons, of course), Batman: The Animated Series appealed to comic-book readers, fans of the recent Tim Burton Batman movies, and new young fans alike

As part of the DC Super Hero Collection license we will produce a new mini-series of figurines and magazines based on the hit 1992 Batman: The Animated Series. The figurines will be presented at 1:16 scale and feature the main characters from the show in classic poses, and sculpted in the unique art style of the show.

Each figurine will be presented in a window box designed packaging to match the recently re-launched DC Super Hero Collection. The figurine will also come with a 12-page magazine that will feature articles and artwork from the Batman: The Animated Series."
Six seemed a good number for a mini-series. Of course, Batman and the Joker had to be included, but who else? Harley Quinn seemed a cert. The character was created for the series long before she made it to the comic books (and eventually the big screen in 2016's Suicide Squad). So, here was the provisional running order...
Classic villain the Penguin had a great look for the show, rotund, finely dressed, with the monocle providing a sophisticated touch. Catwoman's grey all-in-one jumpsuit and whip bore similarities to her contemporary comic-book portrayal, while a sultry Poison Ivy gave the set a satisfying 50/50 male to female ratio.
That was the easy bit. Next up, in two weeks' time, Part 2: Development, the list gets switched, and finding the perfect pose.

Harley Quinn & Batman Prequel Comic

Fans of DC Comics will have more to look forward to than the animated Batman & Harley Quinn movie, now that an accompanying comic series has been revealed. The early film trailers of Batman, Nightwing, and Harley teaming up to save the world showed that the odd extension of Batman: The Animated Series was worth fans’ attention, but it’s only the middle chapter of a much larger, even more promising story coming from DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
We’re pleased to offer the first exclusive details of the new comic book series HARLEY QUINN AND BATMAN, a prequel telling the tale of how our title characters wound up in the spot where the movie begins. Harley Quinn may be pulled out of prison to help the Dark Knight bring down Poison Ivy, but before that, fans will need to see what got her locked up to begin with. And to make the Digital First series every bit as promising as the film, some of the most proven talent in the extended world of Batman: The Animated Series has been recruited.
