Happy New Year! from The Batman

Possible Spoiler Filled First Reaction to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

"Performances were all great. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex is way more complex
than what the trailers show. By the end of the film, you will HATE him,
but at the same time, you can’t help admire how capable this guy is.
Ben Affleck as Bruce/Batman is definitely the standout performance. I
was surprised/scared how different he became when he put the mask on.
This Batman will come across as a villain to some viewers; he enjoys
inflicting pain on criminals. There was a scene where he was branding a
criminal, and he had the biggest smile on his face. I don’t know how
fans will react to that, but I felt it worked with this version of the
character.

How to be a Superhero

http://13thdimension.com/this-guy-can-tell-you-how-to-be-a-superhero/

At some point or another in your life, you wanted to be a superhero. Probably even right now. Well, writer Mark Edlitz got the idea to ask the people who’ve actually done it — at least on screen. In How to Be a Superhero (BearManor Media, $42.95 list price), Edlitz talked to dozens of people who’ve given vision and voice to our fantasies: from the actors and actresses who’ve played Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and even James Bond — to the creators and directors like Stan Lee, Joe Quesada and Jon Favreau.

Ben Affleck Discusses How His Batman Is Different From Christian Bale's

Ben Affleck Discusses How His Batman Is Different From Christian Bale's

"I don’t want to compete with other incarnations, nor do I want to emulate them. Those versions belong in another universe. Christopher Nolan used his Batman to tell a finite story. My version is different, but remains faithful to the Batman mythology and all the themes associated with it. The other difference is that Nolan’s Batman isn’t part of a universe where other superheroes exist as well. Here – because we’re working towards the Justice League – there’s Superman, and it’s a world populated with super beings. This situation generates an altogether new reality."

Superheroes At Retirement Age

http://geektyrant.com/news/heres-what-superheroes-would-look-like-at-retirement-age

Eddie Liu, an artist from Shanghai, has his own thoughts about the aged versions of superheroes. Liu has interpreted the images of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash in quite an interesting way. In the artist’s recreation, the youthfulness of the characters looks to be long gone, but still, the artist manages to preserve an essential part of their sublimity.

Batman fans asked to save real Gotham's building

It may not look as grand as Wayne Manor, but villagers hope Batman fans might be able to help them save a community building in the real Gotham.
The building in the Nottinghamshire village - historically connected to the fictional Gotham City - closed amid financial problems and is up for sale.
Campaigners are raising money to buy it and hope Batman fans will aid them.
"We all need a superhero around occasionally, don't we?," said John Anderson, who is leading fundraising

  • Villagers in Gotham used to have a reputation for madness, and stories of their supposedly foolish acts were collected in various books including The Merie Tales of the Mad Men of Gotam, published in 1565.
  • The American author Washington Irving became aware of the tales and repeatedly referred to Manhattan as Gotham when writing, in 1807, in the Salmagundi papers, a satirical periodical mocking New Yorkers.
  • Gotham then became a popular nickname for New York City and is still used today, in shop names and notably at the Gotham Center for New York City History.
  • Batman's setting in Detective Comics was initially referred to as an unnamed "teeming metropolis" and later explicitly identified as "New York".
  • However, writer Bill Finger said he changed the name to Gotham City after looking through a phone book and seeing the name Gotham Jewelers.

Snyder on #BatmanvSuperman Casting etc.

http://geektyrant.com/news/zack-snyder-on-batman-v-superman-batsuit-casting-affleck-and-frank-millers-influence

Zack Snyder recently presented the late Batman comic book writer Bill Finger with a star on the Walk of Fame. While there, Comic Book Resources had a chance to talk to talk to the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director about his highly anticipated film. During the interview, he talked about the new Batman suit design, casting Ben Affleck in the role, Frank Miller's influence, and the kind of humor that we'll see in the movie. In regards to the suit, Snyder said:
"I had a really strong idea about what I wanted to do -- I really wanted to do sort of a fabric-based Batman; not what's become the more normal, armored Batman. That's how we evolved it."

5 Reasons Your Students Should Be Reading Comic Books

Literacy is a complicated concept. What literacy includes seems to widen and envelop more each year. We are required to read, interpret, and understand many different genres of communication. One thing is clear though–the more we read the more we understand.
Comic books, or some refer to them as graphic novels, are an underrated resource for developing literacy. When is the last time you visited a comic book shop? I assure you there is more than meets the eye on the treasured shelves of these stores.

1956 Oldsmobile 88 - THE FIRST BATMOBILE

I know I've blogged about this car before. But now here's a more in depth look at it with some history behind it and some great video, too.
Sid and Alicia Belzberg can now be considered amongst some of the most
important people in the world of star cars. If not for their decision to
take an old wreck into their care, today we would not have what is now
known to be the first Batmobile ever made.

75 Years of Batman

Great article. This is only a portion of it. Read the whole thing at the link above!

When the Bat-Man first appeared, he did so from the shadows, clad in a vampiric cowl with slits for eyes, long, sharp ears and a cape with bat-like wings. That was in 1939, in the pages of Detective Comics No. 27. Six months later, when Batman’s creators realized they had a hit on their hands, they revealed his traumatic childhood. As a boy, the story goes, Bruce Wayne watched a criminal gun down his parents in a street robbery. Alone and orphaned, with tears streaming down his pink face, he resolved to spend his life fighting violent crime. “Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot,” he famously declared, as he vowed to “strike terror in their hearts.”
It was a time of global unease. The economy had not yet recovered from the Great Depression, and Hitler was amassing power in Germany. Meanwhile, in the comic books, it was the dawn of the Superhero age. In many ways, the shadow Batman emerged from belonged to the enormously powerful Superman. But this was no Superman. Batman had no superpowers, no alien origins and no foster parents who inspired him to use powers for good.

Batman vs. Superman for Reals

Ok. I'm not anti-Superman (not like why wife thinks) but I do prefer Batman, and therefore enjoy when he gets the better of the "BoyScout". Check out the link above for descriptions of all 10 examples.
Long before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally got the green light at Warner Bros., the debate about who should win in a fight between these two DC Comics icons has been raging. As two of the world’s biggest superheroes, they each obviously have their own respective fan bases, and both sides come up with very convincing arguments about why one would emerge victorious over the other.
