 At some point or another in your life, you wanted to be a superhero. Probably even right now. Well, writer Mark Edlitz got the idea to ask the people who’ve actually done it — at least on screen. In How to Be a Superhero (BearManor Media, $42.95 list price), Edlitz talked to dozens of people who’ve given vision and voice to our fantasies: from the actors and actresses who’ve played Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and even James Bond — to the creators and directors like Stan Lee, Joe Quesada and Jon Favreau.

In comics circles, cranks are king.
Harvey Pekar was the king of cranks. He was a born contrarian, a writer whose ironically titled comic-book series American Splendor was a compendium of personal grievances, largely about human nature and its failings.
Pekar, who died Monday at the age of 70, was a product of Cleveland, his blue-collar hometown. His disillusionment with the American Dream and its diminishing returns echoed his city’s decline as a manufacturing centre, and he found an outlet for his frustrations in comics.
