Benjamin Melniker has died


In cinema, Batman has always been subject to change.
 Even amidst all that change, though, two names have been a constant with cinematic Batman: Michael Uslan and Benjamin Melniker.  Going back to Tim Burton’s landmark 1989 Batman film, the duo’s names have been listed in some sort of producing role on pretty much every Batman film ever since.  Sadly, Uslan announced on Facebook today that Melniker has died.
He was 104.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Batman?


Rumors have resurfaced suggesting that Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal is set to take over the role of Batman in the near future. Ben Affleck took over as the Caped Crusader after Christian Bale’s lauded turn in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, and many fans never warmed to him. Affleck already has three films as Batman / Bruce Wayne under his utility belt – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and most recently Justice League – but studio execs are said to have gone sour on him and are looking for a replacement. Gyllenhaal is in prime position to take over if they pull the trigger on Affleck, or indeed if Affleck walks, and that has sent fans and rumor mills into overdrive.

Phoenix in Talks to Play ‘The Joker’

Todd Phillips (The Hangover) was working on a standalone origin story for The Joker, and huge news from Variety today indicates that Phillips may have found his Clown Prince of Crime in none other than Joaquin Phoenix! The site notes that studio negotiations are not yet underway, but that “Phillips has made it clear that Phoenix is the top choice to star.” Additionally, sources tell Variety that “Phoenix has agreed to the role in the untitled film.
