#joker Heath Ledger's Diary

"I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary" - Heath Ledger on his preparation for The Joker role in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT.

Thanks to a German documentary series “Too Young To Die”, which featured an episode on Heath Ledger last summer. In the video, Heath Ledger’s father Kim Ledger flips through some of the pages and talks about his son’s work. It can be hard to hear him over the German translation so here’s rough transcript:
This was the diary. In order to inhabit his character, he locked himself up in a hotel room for weeks. He would do that. He liked to dive into his characters, but this time he really took it to a whole new level.
The hospital scene is interesting because when he was a kid, his sister Kate liked to dress him up as a nurse. He was really funny like that. He also was in the movie. This is a make-up test which was done eight months before. Before the end of the shooting he wrote ‘bye bye’ on the back of the page. It was hard to see this.

WHY Aren't there More Canadian Superheres?

I believe this to be a very thought provoking article, being from Canada and all. Some good points made, but what do you think? Please comment.

Some thoughts on Canadian superheroes:
- Canadians, by and large, aren’t as theatrically patriotic as Americans are. We believe in our country and we’re passionate about it to a degree, but we don’t tend to put on the kind of bold outward display of patriotism that Americans do. When Stacy and I visited Maryland for a friend’s wedding late last year we saw small town America in full form and were stunned by the number of American flags out in front of houses. I haven’t seen that many Canadian flags anywhere this side of the parliament buildings in Ottawa. We as Canadians tend to be laid back and more understated as a whole and the kind of “Rah-Rah, our country needs a hero!” thing doesn’t seem to jive well with our national identity.

#Batman vs. Freud

“I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman.” That one is quite possibly one of the most iconic lines from any comic book related medium and is quite possibly the best demonstration of how the world views Batman. He is the dark visage of a man who seeks vengeance on the idea of evil that caused the deaths of his parents.  Batman’s character has inspired many deconstructions of what the character means many times over and still we have yet to fully grasp all the complexities of the character. But for me, one of the most striking things about the Batman is not that he is a hero fighting the idea of crime with abstraction and fear, but the fact that he is the true caricature of Freudian subconscious.

BATMAN -- that international champion of justice, that dreaded scourge of evil -- was created by a garment worker and a shoe salesman named, respectively, Robert Kahn and Bill Finger (both pictured). And it all started in the Bronx!

All for only 1 Million

A group of wealthy car enthusiasts bored with Lamborghinis and Ferraris have teamed up to build their own ultimate supercar - a road legal Batmobile.
The men, who call themselves Team Galag, regularly compete in the infamous Gumball 3000 rally where the rich drive across Europe in the world's most exotic cars.
But this year they have decided to take part in a road legal replica of the legendary Tumbler driven by Christian Bale in the Dark Knight trilogy.
Early stages: The vehicle is virtually identical to the incredible machine driven by Christian Bale as Batman

One of the good things about the Calgary Expo is that you get to meet some cool folks. Like the gang at Hero Me Up  you gotta check them out! they take on-line orders.

Hellboy 3 ?

Ron Perlman wants in!

Hellboy-5

One of the reasons Director Guillermo isn’t jumping to make the Hellboy films a trilogy is because he is afraid that the fan base isn’t big enough. Not being a Marvel or DC character I suppose Hellboy may get pushed aside out of the spotlight when it is released. Marvel have a film due to be released every 6 months-ish or so for the next 2 years. Persoanlly I love Hellboy’s character, everybody loves a bad boy and all the characters in the films are interesting and different and Ron Perlman has nailed the part in both films so far.
