The Batman classic ‘The Long Halloween’ graphic novel may just be produced as a two-part animated feature film if a new rumor is true. The thirteen-part comic series was first published from 1996-1997 from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale. The series is also said to have inspired many of the events in the The Dark Knight trilogy.

Warner Bros. has hired Alec Baldwin to appear opposite Joaquin Phoenix in its “Joker” origin film, playing the role of Thomas Wayne, the father of Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne.

Variety first reported that Phoenix was in talks to play the Clown Prince of Crime. As soon as his deal was finalized, the studio gave the greenlight to a September start date with a budget in the moderate $55 million dollar range.

Todd Phillips (“The Hangover” franchise) is on board to co-write and direct. Jared Leto will not appear in this Joker film. Leto played the Joker in 2016’s “Suicide Squad” and is expected to be back for the “Suicide Squad” sequel, along with another standalone Joker movie that will be separate from Phoenix’s Joker project.

Per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, legendary actor Robert De Niro is “in talks” to join director Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix on JOKER (aka “Joker Origin Film”).

The trade says that if he signs on, Mr. De Niro will play “a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin.”

Warner Bros. has made it official: Joaquin Phoenix has finalized a deal to play The Joker in a new origin film from director Todd Phillips (The Hangover, War Dogs) and executive producer Martin Scorsese.

The film is co-written by Phillips and Scott Silver (8 Mile). The studio describes their script as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” according to Variety.

Never heard of "Black Angel" before today? 

There's a fascinating story that accompanies the 34-year-old short film. It was directed by Roger Christian, the Oscar-winning art director of Star Wars and Alien, and George Lucas commissioned the short to be made so it could debut in front of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in theaters in Europe. It's a fantasy film that had a big influence on sword and sorcery movies that followed, including John Boorman's Excalibur (Boorman showed it to his entire crew before filming that movie), and also impacted Empire itself, since Lucas used Christian's "step-printing" technique to slow down one of the lightsaber fight sequences.

It has been 25 years since Tim Burton's first Batman film came out and proved superhero movies could be serious? People forget this seemed impossible at the time, which is why WB made this fascinating behind-the-scenes promo video in 1988.According to the special's director, Andrew Gillman, the video was made to reassure distributors and merchandisers the movie wasn't going to be a campy update of the 1966 Batman TV series.

As Warner Bros. and DC ramp up their superheroic output as part of their answer to Marvel’s domination of the genre in cinemas, we have some confirmed movies – such as the in-production Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and the planned Justice League follow up, plus a rumoured future schedule. Another possibility has emerged from Latino Review’s sources, with whispers that Ben Affleck’s Batman will appear in his own stand-alone film, working titled The Batman.
Naturally, none of this has been confirmed by the studio, so you may file it firmly in the Bat-rumour storage caves for now. But with Affleck signed on for multiple outings as the Caped Crusader, the idea is hardly far fetched. Warners would naturally want to capitalise on any potential goodwill generated by Zack Snyder’s two new movies and it only seems right that the new Bats score his own adventure.
