@CaptainCanuck to Celebrate Canada Day with New Edition!

A patriotic superhero with ties to Calgary will be the focus of a new Canada Day edition.
Given that Captain Canuck has been fighting for truth, justice and the Canadian way for nearly 40 years, it may seem strange that he has yet to star in a “Canada Day” edition. But creator and former Calgarian Richard Comely used the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo on Saturday to announce the first of what he hopes will become an annual tradition.
The Captain Canuck Canada Day Edition will be released June 28 and feature two adventures, a listing of cultural events across Canada and a list of comic-book stores and conventions.
Best of all, it will be made available for free through public libraries and comic book stores across the nation, beginning June 28.
Captain Canuck was born in Winnipeg, the brainchild of Comely and friend Ron Leishman who had met at a Mormon church. Four issues were published in 1975 before the character was reborn (in the first of many reincarnations) in Calgary in 1979.
Those early issues were illustrated by George Freeman and Raymond, Alberta’s Claude St. Aubin, who are both involved in the new edition. It’s the first time in 33 years that Comley, Freeman and St. Aubin have collaborated.

@CaptainCanuck hanging out @CalgaryExpo Great to see you guys!

It was great to see the incomparable Richard Comely, creator of the original Captain Canuck and his "new guard" at Expo this year.
 They have plans for a comic book series, animated shows, and the second draft of the feature film script is done!

#CaptainCanuck vs. #CaptainAmerica

Look at some of Canada's most fearless heroes and break down their chances against the first Avenger

Captain Canuck
The hero of a self-titled indie comic launched in the mid-70s, Captain Canuck was originally imagined as a secret agent who gained powers after coming in contact with aliens, and patrolled the futuristic Canada of the 1990s, where our nation was the most powerful on Earth. Seems plausible.
Could he beat Captain America?
This hoser? Fat chance.

@CaptainCanuck Action Figure Coming Soon!

Following his new animated web series, Canada’s own iconic champion, Captain Canuck gets the action figure kids have been looking for since his debut in 1975 with a new release from Odeon Toys.

He’s been on a postage stamp, even the cover of Time, but for decades, Superman had one thing over Canada’s Superhero… an action figure. Canadian toy maker Odeon toys in creative partnership with EMCE toys and Big B Comics are righting that wrong. The 8 inch tall figure which will retail for $24.99 will have the look and feel of a toy released when the first issue of Captain Canuck, by creator Richard Comely, hit news stands in 1975.
“We were looking for an iconic Canadian character for our first release, and I can think of none better than Captain Canuck ” said Sam Noir, project coordinator at Odeon. He added “I was one of those kids who looked for a Canuck figure on toy shelves in the 1970s, I must admit, we’re pretty excited to be doing this.”
