Chicago-based high school teacher Eric Kallenborn got an idea as he prepared his 2011 Advanced Placement English students for another year analyzing the classics: What if, instead of simply handing out texts and homework, he could give them a choice between a traditional textbook and a graphic novel version of the same story?
On a trip to his local library, Kallenborn stumbled on a perfect test text for his experiment, Gareth Hinds’ 2007 richly illustrated adaptation of “Beowulf,” an epic poem he planned to teach that quarter. Kallenborn wondered if the kids who chose the graphic novel would be left behind on test scores and writing assessments.

Axe Launches Fragrance With a Graphic Novel on YouTube

 This has got to be one of the best marketing strategies in the last few years.

Axe is taking a novel approach with the launch of its new fragrance line, Anarchy. The brand is introducing two scents, one for men and one for women, with a YouTube-based graphic novel that fans will help write.
Anarchy, the fragrance, will be supported by Anarchy: The Graphic Novel, which is set to go live on the brand’s YouTube Page Tuesday morning. The Unilever brand, working with digital agency Razorfish, commissioned Aspen Comics for the effort. Scott Lobdell, who wrote X-Men stories in the ’90s and is now responsible for three major DC Comics titles, will also be writing the graphic novel.
The plot will follow the exploits of the “Anarchy Girls” as they unleash chaos around the world. In an interactive twist, fans will be able to direct the characters, plot and outcome of the story.
Although sales peaked in 2007, graphic novels continue to be a popular niche, racking up $340 million in sales in 2010. However, given the stereotypically male-skewing appeal of the genre, a graphic novel is a curious choice for Axe’s new fragrance, since there are designated iterations for each sex.

Ryan Standfest: BLACK EYE Anthology Confiscated at Canadian Border | The Comics Journal

Mr. Tom Neely reported this morning that while traveling across the border to Canada to attend this year’s TCAF, the five copies of the black humor comics anthology BLACK EYE that he was carrying with him to the festival were confiscated/seized by a customs agent on the grounds that the material in BLACK EYE was “obscene.”
According to Neely:
“… They took ‘em. I tried to get them to just ship them back to me at home, but they said they were required to send it to Ottawa for review… if they found the material to be ‘obscene’ they would take ‘further action.’ I asked what ‘further action’ meant and he said they would just destroy them. Or there is a chance they might ship them back to me.

Bring Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ to the Big Screen

When “The Dark Knight Rises” is released in 2012, it likely marks the end of Christopher Nolan's tenure at the helm of Batman films. The director has said the story is a conclusion and it is fair to assume Nolan and lead actor Christian Bale will wrap up their involvement in Gotham City. If that happens, it is the perfect time to bring Frank Miller's legendary graphic novel, “The Dark Knight Returns” to the silver screen. 

 

Well....whatta think? What about a TV miniseries??? I would go for that.

The Killing Joke ala LEGO

This is the climax of Alan Moore’s Batman classic The Killing Joke as skillfully reenacted by Lego characters. Not only did The Killing Joke depict the crippling of Batgirl Barbara Gordon, but it also introduced one of the Joker’s more popular origin stories. This graphic novel is a quintessential edition to any bat-fan or comic fan out there.

BATMAN vs. WATCHMEN

OK, not really verses......but
The Dark Knight is to movies, what Watchmen was/is to comics. Legitimization.
We all know by now that Dark Knight won 2 Academy Awards in February, including Best Supporting Actor for Heath Ledger. This represents the first time that a comic book movie has been awarded an Oscar. Comic book movies have always been main-stream, but only because of the fans. Now the critics are involved...giving the greatest "thumbs up" a picture can get.
The same was true for The Watchmen. When it was first published, it was the first graphic novel to appear on the New York Time's best seller list. Once again, the comic book genera is getting critical acclaim.
No longer are comic geeks crouching in shadows....we are out in the main stream making normal people fell uneasy and unworthy.
Why so serious?

It was a DC Christmas

Well except for Hellboy 2 but that's OK!!
