Star Trek in Calgary!

A quarter of a century after beaming onto the airwaves in 1987, the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will make a rare public appearance at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in April.
Next Generation aired in syndication from September, 1987 through May, 1994. The show, won 18 Primetime Emmys, with 178 episodes over seven seasons and ran longer than any other Star Trek series.
"I can safely say it will be the first time we have all been gathered together at a convention," said LeVar Burton, who played Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge, in an interview with The Canadian Press.
"It doesn't feel like it's been 25 years," said Burton.
"It's interesting because this week is the 35th anniversary of Roots airing for the first time and this year is the 25th anniversary of the Next Gen coming on the air. It's just kind of crazy to think that time is just passing so quickly," he added.

Big Bang Thoery not the First....it was BOB

Who knew? Big Bang Theory wasn't the first show about comic book geeks (or for comic book geeks)

The 1992 sitcom Bob starred Bob Newhart of Newhart and The Bob Newhart Show fame as Bob McKay, the cartoonist who created Mad-Dog, a Batman like super hero during the 1950s, which ceases to be published after the whole Wertham “Seduction of the Innocent” scare. Fast forwarding about four decades later, the American-Canadian Trans-Continental Communications Company buys the rights to the character, and Bob gets back into the comics industry.
Bob winds up feuding with his much younger writer/editor who wants to take the character into a much darker and more violent direction, setting up Bob’s workplace drama in the usual sitcom old guy versus new guy sense.

River City to Gotham City

IT'S a long way from River City to Gotham City, but Scots actor Sam Heughan is delighted to be swinging back into Scotland in his biggest role yet.

The former soap star takes to the stage in front of a home crowd as the caped crusader in the stunning new stage show Batman Live.

Heughan has been wowing crowds down south with his lead role in the multi-million pound, stunt-filled spectacular which arrives at Glasgow's SECC next Wednesday.

And while he may be best known for his work in the BBC soap, and as Hugh Tennent in the recent comedy beer adverts, 21-year-old Sam's hit run as the comic book superhero has made him one of the most talked-about young stars in the country.

Calagry Expo Day 2

William Shatner!!!
Great to hear him speak and field questions. Rumor had it that there was approximately 5000 people there to see him, and boy, did he command the room. He has done so much in his life, and watch for a new documentary that he wrote and directed called, THE CAPTAINS. He went around and interviewed all the actors that ever played a Star Fleet Captain. very cool.
He is pictured here with Calgary Mayor Nenshi, receiving the coveted "White Hat".

After seeing Shat-man speak, I headed to the floor!
NEAL ADAMS!!!!
Got a couple autographs, and was able to talk to him for a bit, (was lucky to have no one behind me in line for about 5 mins) He sketched while we spoke. Great man, very present to talk to.

Ryan Standfest: BLACK EYE Anthology Confiscated at Canadian Border | The Comics Journal

Mr. Tom Neely reported this morning that while traveling across the border to Canada to attend this year’s TCAF, the five copies of the black humor comics anthology BLACK EYE that he was carrying with him to the festival were confiscated/seized by a customs agent on the grounds that the material in BLACK EYE was “obscene.”
According to Neely:
“… They took ‘em. I tried to get them to just ship them back to me at home, but they said they were required to send it to Ottawa for review… if they found the material to be ‘obscene’ they would take ‘further action.’ I asked what ‘further action’ meant and he said they would just destroy them. Or there is a chance they might ship them back to me.

BATMAN LIVE

BATMAN LIVE
A new LIVE ACTION show that's is premiering in England this year....and hopefully touring the world soon!

It’s a play of sorts, but it’s going to be performed in Britain’s biggest, grandest arenas rather than theatres. There will be acrobatics, pyrotechnics, stuntmen, supervillains and screeching Batmobiles on a 100ft-wide, 60ft-deep performance area. Behind them, a giant video wall will flash panels from comic strips and special effects, and give the appearance of interacting with the live performers on stage.
