Batman: The Killing Joke is seen by many as the definitive Batman and Joker story. So perhaps it’s fitting that two of the most definitive actors to ever voice the roles are returning for its animated adaptation. In this DC All Access animation clip, we talk to Kevin Conroy about voicing Batman in the highly anticipated, R-rated film based on the acclaimed one-shot. How does he feel about bringing this particularly dark tale of the Dark Knight to life?

‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Animated Movie Gets Official R Rating
The original comic book made waves as not only becoming the only real
definitive telling of the villain’s origin story, but also for its dark
imagery and deep, psychological torture of Detective Jim Gordon and the
story’s brutal treatment of his daughter, Barbara, at the hands of the
Clown Prince of Crime. And why? Just to prove that all it takes is one bad day for everyone to go a little mad inside.

“From the start of production, we encouraged producer Bruce Timm and
our team at Warner Bros. Animation to remain faithful to the original
story — regardless of the eventual MPAA rating, The Killing Joke is
revered by the fans, particularly for its blunt, often-shocking adult
themes and situations. We felt it was our responsibility to present our
core audience — the comics-loving community — with an animated film that
authentically represented the tale they know all too well.”

A 12-minute sneak peek of the animated Batman: The Killing Joke has been released online. Back in March, it was officially announced that Mark Hamill would be voicing The Joker and Kevin Conroy would be voicing Batman.
It was also announced that Tara Strong would voice Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, and Ray Wise would voice Commissioner Gordon.
In the sneak peek video, Mark Hamill says, "If people want to see a really nasty, vile Joker, this is the one."

Hamill, Joker. One more time?
I am entirely OK with this.
DC is poised to continue their fantastic animated film run with an adaptation of the wildly successful, equally divisive Killing Joke. Now, arguably the most famous Joker, Mark Hamill, has expressed his intentions to be in on the Killing Joke himself, lending some real star power to upcoming animated feature. Since one of the key folks behind the incredible Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Timm, is leading the new film, it seems more than likely that Hamill could rejoin the ranks after all. We’ve got Hamill’s enthusiastic tweet here for you to check out for yourself.
