Under the Red Hood DVD
The next live-action Batman movie is still in limbo, but the Caped Crusader is back on screen this week in a gritty new animated adventure. In Batman: Under the Red Hood — the latest in Warner Home Videos' series of movies based on DC Comics stories — a mysterious and ruthless vigilante has shown up in Gotham City, and not even the Dark Knight is able stop him.
This violent newcomer, named for the red hood that covers his face, quickly stirs up trouble, making enemies of the city's criminals and heroes. "He seems to be working on becoming a better Batman than Batman even is — not by fighting crime, but by controlling it," says writer Judd Winick, who adapted his 2005-06 comic storyline into the screenplay.
The movie is available Tuesday on DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and on demand

The show is ending, but they still have the second half of Season 2 to air. There will then there will be a 13-episode Season 3, which will be the final one. Season 1 and 2 each consisted of 26 episodes each.

Exclusive: 'Batman 3' Cinematographer Hopes To Shoot 'Whole Movie In IMAX'
Early on in the "Inception" preproduction process, director Christopher Nolan and director of photography Wally Pfister had a conversation that dragged on for weeks: After shooting a portion of "The Dark Knight" in IMAX, would they also shoot their Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller in the large-scale film format?
"Finally I had to tell Chris that the way he was describing the film, so much of it wanted to be with a handheld camera and kind of running around," Pfister told MTV News. "That's just not physically possible with the IMAX camera. We ruled out shooting in IMAX."
Their thinking on how to shoot "Batman 3," however, might turn out to be vastly different. "I can't say until I read the script, but it would certainly be my preferred, amazing goal to shoot the whole movie in IMAX," Pfister said.
That sentiment jibes with rumors from last summer that suggested the next "Batman" could indeed be shot all in IMAX. At this point, though, Pfister is waiting to get his hands on the script and to find out when the threequel will shift into production. When it does, he's hoping to work with IMAX cameras and hoping to avoid 3-D ones.
"I must say I'm a huge IMAX fan. I like IMAX more than I like 3-D," he explained. "Chris' films are so densely layered and have so much going on visually in every way that IMAX helps enhance that because of the scope and the scale of it — it becomes a much larger canvas to paint on. That's what we found on 'Dark Knight.'
"I'm not a big fan of 3-D," he continued. "I liken it to my View-Master I had 40 years ago. Are you really getting more out of the story with 3-D? When you separate those different planes and you're creating artificial depth, it looks phony to me."
Nolan hasn't jumped on the 3-D bandwagon either, saying in June, "I'm not a huge fan of 3-D." Still, any decisions about how to shoot "Batman 3" will ultimately involve Warner Bros. and will certainly wait until Nolan and Pfister sit down and have a discussion similar to the one they had in the run-up to "Inception."
"We usually have lunch and he asks me, 'Tell me what your thoughts are,' " Pfister said. "It's very casual. It's not very technical. And then we start to build toward, 'How are we going to shoot this? Where are we going to shoot this?' My preproduction is about four months long before principal photography begins.
"I can't imagine how we're going to step it up [after 'Inception']," he added. "But we will."

Festivalgoers got the first public glimpse Saturday night of the film's cast after the day's movie panels wrapped up. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige stepped out onto the stage and began calling out the cast as 6,000 stunned fans at the pop culture extravaganza looked on.
The Avengers, due in 2012, weaves together the stories of Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow and others. It's a comic book fan's dream film.
The all-star cast and their comic alter egos are:

Harvey Pekar was the king of cranks. He was a born contrarian, a writer whose ironically titled comic-book series American Splendor was a compendium of personal grievances, largely about human nature and its failings.
Pekar, who died Monday at the age of 70, was a product of Cleveland, his blue-collar hometown. His disillusionment with the American Dream and its diminishing returns echoed his city’s decline as a manufacturing centre, and he found an outlet for his frustrations in comics.

CGC Certified VF-7.5 Detective #27 was bought by college student in Hawaii in 1974
DALLAS, TX – A CGC Certified VF-7.5 copy of Detective Comics #27, known as the “Aloha” copy, is expected to bring $400,000+ when it makes its hobby debut as part of Heritage Auctions’ Aug. 5-6 Signature® Comics and Comics Art Auction. It is expected to bring $400,000+.
“We think this could become just the second comic to top $400,000 at auction,” said Ed Jaster, Vice President of Heritage Auctions.
In February of this year Heritage’s offering of Batman's first appearance broke the existing world's record for a price realized at public auction for an individual comic book when it brought $1,075,000. In fact, it was because of that comic, and the international attention it garnered, that the consignor of this copy brought it forward.

It's Not a Doll, It's an Action Figure
Anyway, an art gallery in Florida is showcasing some original art based on action figures and comic book heroes. The exhibit is called, "It's Not a Doll, It's an Action Figure."
Guest curator Anna Pants assembled a talented and diverse group of 14 international artists to participate in the show. Pants said, “Each artist was asked to recreate the memory of their favorite action figure and/or explore the fine line between an action figure and a doll.”Bear and Bird owner/chief curator Amanda Magnetta-Ottati passed the curatorial torch for this special engagement to artist A. Pants after seeing the concept develop on Pants’ popular blog site, www.nerdsquared.com. The theme is especially appropriate for Bear and Bird Gallery, which sits atop Tate’s Comics, a popular shopping destination for toys, collectables, dolls, and action figures.
